Shirva: Tragic demise of former Udupi Taluk Panchayat Prez Ignatius D’Souza

Shirva: Former vice-president of Udupi Taluk Panchayat and prominent Congress leader, Ignatius D’Souza (70), was tragically found dead at his residence in Mattaru Dharmettu.
It is suspected that he may have passed away at least 3 days ago due to illness and his decomposing body was found at his residence today. He had been living alone at home for the past year.
Social worker Suri Shetty from Kaup and Nagaraj, along with assistance from the cooperative, arranged for the deceased’s body to be taken to the KMC Manipal Morgue. As per the request made by his son, a case has been filed in the Shirva Police Station.
The deceased is survived by his wife, 6 sons, and 2 daughters.
Having been elected twice as a member of Udupi Taluk Panchayat, Ignatius D’Souza had served as the Vice-President, Mandal Panchayat President of Shirva, three terms as Mandal Panchayat member, President of Shirva Co-operative Agricultural Society. He was also associated with senior Congress leader late Oscar Fernandes for 10 years, serving as the president of Kaup Block Congress and the Minority Department of the district Congress. He was a member of the Land Tribunal, District KPCC member, Shirva Church Finance Council member, and currently held the position of Vice-President of the Udupi District Congress.
Former Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, K.P.C.C. Coordinator Navin Chandra Shetty Padubidri, Kaup Block Congress President Navin Chandra Suvarna, former G.P. member Wilson Rodrigues, former Shirva Gram Panchayat President Hassanabba Sheikh, K.R. Patkar, Ratan Shetty, and other prominent figures have expressed their condolences.
