Shivamogga: At least eight shops in the clothes market of Basaveshwara Temple, Gandhi Bazaar, were destroyed in a blaze, late-night on Monday.

The fire brigade, which arrived promptly, struggled to douse the fire.

The fire brigade was alerted around 10 PM. Dense smoke from the burning clothes and fancy stores hindered the firefighting efforts.

Nearby shop owners were immediately notified to evacuate their shops. Many shop owners tried to salvage clothes, slippers, and fancy items. MLA S.N. Channabasappa visited the site to inspect the situation.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
