Shivamogga: In a case of suicide, a woman threw her two young children into the Bhadra canal here before jumping herself. She allegedly took the extreme step after being maligned for demanding the return of loaned money.
The deceased have been identified as Veena, a resident of Yadehalli in Bhadravati taluk, and her two young daughters aged 7 and 1 years.
A death note was recovered from the bag of the victim that was found on the banks of the canal.
In the death note, Veena has reportedly mentioned that she was upset over the rumors spread about her character by Santhosh and Asha of Arahatholalu Village in Bhadravati Taluk.
It is gathered that Veena and her husband had loaned Rs 8 lakh to Santosh and Asha. But the amount was not returned as promised. When asked for the money to be returned, Santhosh and Asha started spreading rumors about Veena. They allegedly made up false stories about Veena’s extra-marital affairs.
On January 13, Veena boarded a bus near the town to go to her home in Gulalkere but alighted near the Bhadra canal 2 kilometers ahead before ending her life.
The mortal remains of Veena and her elder daughter have been recovered. A search operation is underway to trace the body of another.
Meanwhile, one of the accused in the case Santosh(35) has been arrested for abetting suicide based on a complaint filed by Veena’s husband, sources said. Asha, the other accused, is on the run.
Further investigations are underway.
Suicide is preventable. If you get any such thoughts, consult or seek expert help.
