Shivamogga: A car owner faked the theft of his car and landed himself in jail here.
Police said they have arrested Chandrukumar (28) of Vidyanagar who had lodged a complaint about the theft of his car for committing insurance fraud. They also arrested his accomplice Prashanth (29) of Saraswathi Nagar in Davanagere.
Police said Chandrukumar had bought the car by borrowing money from a finance company. He hatched the plan of faking theft so as to avoid paying the car loan and to get the insurance amount.
He lodged a police complaint stating that the car which was parked at Sulebail had been stolen.
However, police got suspicious about the owner’s story and questioned him. He reportedly confessed to the police that the car had not been stolen but he gave the car to Prashanth and changed the number plate in order to pull off the con.
A case was registered at Tunga Nagar police station.
