Shivamogga: Two lecturers from Karkala drown in Tunga river

Shivamogga: A weekend outing turned tragic as two lecturers of a private college in Karkala reportedly are feared drowned in the Tunga river waters at Theerthamattur village in Theerthahalli on Sunday, June 18.

The victims have been identified as Puneeth (38) and Balaji (36), both lecturers at a college in Nitte, Karkala.

According to reports, both had arrived with their friends for a weekend excursion. They had decided to go for a swim from a homestay near Theerthamattur Math in Theerthahalli on Sunday. However, they were swept away by the water currents.

The body of Balaji has been found whereas the search for the other lecturer is ongoing, media reports quoted Shivamogga SP Mithun Kumar as saying.

The Theerthahalli Police and the fire brigade personnel are engaged in the search and rescue operation.
