Udupi: Udupi district Congress youth president Deepak Kotian slammed MP Shobha Karndlaje for making a false statement that leaders of the Christian community are advising believers not to take the vaccine against Covid-19.
Deepak said that Shobha’s comment is a black spot on the democratic system in the country as she accused the Christian community of being anti-national.
“Her party is making false promises to the needy people by announcing fake packages, she is trying to save her party by not saying anything about it,” said Deepak.
He further added, “If she is so concerned about the people of her constituency she should donate oxygen cylinders and other COVID essentials instead of making false accusations.”
“Like Neelakurinji flower that blossoms only once in 12 years, people of your constituency get to see your face only once in a year,” Deepak added.
Deepak further said, “The Christian community is serving society at various levels during the difficult times of Covid-19 pandemic by creating awareness in churches.”
“The community, along with all other Christian churches and denominations, has been working on a war footing since the beginning of the Covid pandemic last year, adhering to all government regulations, spreading awareness, and implementing measures to control the pandemic,” he added.
“Vaccination programs are being organized in church premises right from the beginning. Bishops, priests, and other Christian leaders are leading from the front by getting vaccinated themselves,” he said.
Deepaks comments came after Karandlaje reportedly said that people are being advised in churches in the Malnad region not to receive the Covid vaccines.
She also said Catholics are not to be faulted on the matter, but Christian denominations like Pentecost are ‘misleading’ people and action should be taken against them. The Mangaluru diocese, in a statement, termed the MPs statement as false and painful.
