Manipal: Shobha Karandlaje has tweeted in favour of Manipal-born Rashmi Samant, who resigned as president of the Oxford Student Union in the wake of her controversial posts.

Karandlaje, tweeting two weeks after the incident and tagging Oxford varsity in her tweet said: “Shame on you @UniofOxford! She is the 1st one to get a university degree in her family. 1st Indian woman President of Oxford Student Union. Made it through her hard work despite being from a small town in Udupi. Yet no feminists find it offensive! More Power to u @Rashmidvs!”

Rashmi Samant had resigned after winning the election of the Union amid allegations that some of her social media posts were insensitive and supported racism.

A post of her during her visit to a Holocaust memorial in Berlin was the special target of criticism.
