Karkala: Some people have cheated a shopkeeper by selling him fake gold in the guise of genuine gold. The shopkeeper in question used to get gold ornaments made and sold them and he realized his folly much later.
The town police have registered a case, based on the complaint filed by the victim Sudheer from Karkala Casba village in which he states that Vajresh Kumar from the town, Iqbal from Moodbidri, Javed from Kasaragod, Ashfaq Akbar from Belur, Lokesh from Mudigere and Sachin from Chikkamagaluru had shown him samples of the precious metal, received Rs 25 lakh from him on May 14 and then handed over the fake gold to him insisting that it was genuine.
Sudheer realized that he had been taken for a ride, when he attempted to melt the noble metal for getting ornaments made on August 27.
