Shringeri: Horticulture dept officials advise farmers on preventing locusts attack

Shringeri: Officials of the Horticulture Department on Thursday inspected Ashok Hegde’s areca nut plantation farm at Kochchavalli, which was attacked by the swarming locusts.

Due to the power cut the spraying of pesticide was postponed by the farmer and on Thursday, locusts were spotted in the farm and has destroyed several crops.

The horticulture department has advised farmers on how to control the locusts. They also confirmed that these locusts are  not of the same species which have attacked several farms in the north. This species of locusts were already present in the  southern areas.

The officials advised farmers to use 2 liters of Chlorpyrifos insecticide with 1 litre of water and spray it on the crops to avoid locusts.
