Bengaluru: Congress leader Siddaramaiah lashed out at BJP leaders over the murder of a Dalit youth, allegedly by a BJP party worker in the Belthangadi district.
Taking to Twitter, Siddaramaiah said, “It is a shame that BJP leaders who talk every time about safety and security of Hindus are protecting murder accused of a Dalit youth.”
The police should not buckle under pressure and immediately arrest the accused. The family should also be provided security, he added.
On February 23 the accused Kitta a.k.a Krishna assaulted the victim, Dinesh over a trivial matter. As Dinesh complained of severe stomach ache later that day his family asked Kitta to get him treated.
While admitting Dinesh to the hospital, on February 24 Kitta lied to hospital authorities saying that the victim was injured after he fell down the stairs. Dinesh succumbed to his injuries at the hospital on Friday. The family has lodged a complaint against the accused in this regard.
As per reports, Kitta’s brother is a Bajrang Dal activist and is very close to the BJP MLA Harish Poonja.
Condemning the murder, Vasanth Bangera, former Congress MLA from Belthangadi constituency warned of staging a protest in front of Dharmasthala police station if the accused is not arrested.
He has also sought compensation for kin of the deceased.
