Bengaluru: A day after senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah slammed the BJP for its plan to bestow Bharat Ratna to Veer Savarkar posthumously, state tourism minister CT Ravi questioned if the former chief minister had any idea of history.

On Friday Siddaramaiah, while addressing party workers meeting in Mangaluru remarked, “Those who conspired to eliminate Gandhiji are getting Bharat Ratna! Should BJP be allowed to gain a foothold in Mangaluru, known as a land of intellectuals?.”

Reacting to Siddaramaiah’s remarks, CT Ravi on Saturday tweeted: “You have accused Nationalist Veer Savarkar as Conspirator in the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. Are You mentally handicapped after loosing Chief Minister’s post? Do You have any idea of History? Why don’t You visit Cellular Jail! I will sponsor Your trip.”

Responding to CT Ravi, Siddaramaiah, without directly mentioning the road accident, involving the tourism minister’s car in a tweet said that people who drive cars in a drunken state and end up killing innocent people are mentally handicapped. Only after reading and understanding history, have I made my remarks, he added.

In yet another tweet, Siddaramaiah took a jibe at CT Ravi saying, “If India confers Bharat Ratna to a conspirator in Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination than it can also give Rajyotsava Award to those who kill innocent people in a drunk driving case.”
