Six arrested for running IPL betting racket; over Rs 20 lac cash seized

Mangaluru: Sleuths of City Crime Branch (CCB) and Economic and Narcotic Crime police station busted a cricket betting racket and arrested six persons for allegedly accepting bets on Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket matches via mobile apps like Star App and Lotusbook247.
The arrested Vikram Kumpala have been identified as Dhanpal Shetty, a Krishnapura resident; Kamalesh Surathkal, a native of Rajasthan; Harish Shetty; Preethesh alias Preetham of Ashoknagar and Avinash of Urwa Marigudi.
The accused had opened proxy bank accounts in Axis Bank, Karnataka Bank and HDFC Bank. The police has confiscated Rs three lakh cash and a sum of Rs 20 lakh from the over 20 bank accounts opened by the accused. 10 mobile phones used for betting too were seized by the police.
CCB police inspectors Mahesh Prasad and personnel along with PSI Sathis MP and personnel of Economic and Narcotic Crime police station under the guidance of DSPs Hariram Shankar and Vinay Gaonkar of city police conducted the operation.
