Six members of family commit suicide, financial distress suspected

Koppal: In a tragic incident, six members of a family were found dead in their house in Metagal Village of Koppal taluk of the district on Saturday morning.

Shekharayya Bidanal (42), Jayamma (37) and the couple’s daughters – Basamma(23), Gowaramma (20), Savitri (18) Paravati (16) are the deceased persons.

According to the police, Shekharyya administered poison to his wife and daughters whereafter he ended his life by hanging from a ceiling fan. While the exact reason for the suicide is not known neighbours have hinted that the burden of mounting loans, on account of crop failure might have forced them to take the step.

The Koppal police have registered a case.
