Six new Indira Canteens to be operational in Mangaluru

Mangaluru: Mayor Kavita Sanil announced that six Indira Canteens and a master kitchen will come up in here by January 2018.
“The state government has permitted to open six canteens which includes Attavar, Derebail, Kunjathbail, Idya and Ullal and a kitchen on the based of the current population, which stands at 5,93,291.
Addressing the media here, the mayor said, “On October 23, the State government issued order to open Indira Canteens in urban local bodies situated in taluk headquarters and district headquarters with the aim of providing balanced food to people living in these areas at a reasonable price. Canteens would provide breakfast at Rs.5 and meals at Rs.10.”
The master kitchen will come up at Derebail, the Mayor informed. The canteens will be constructed by the Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Corporation at a cost of Rs 2.97 crores, she said and added that a Committee led by the Deputy Commissioner will monitor the implementation of the canteens.
