Subrahmanya: A person sustained serious injuries and 6 others sustained minor injuries after a wild elephant attacked the car they were travelling in along Uppinangady-Subrahmanya state highway at Bilinele on Saturday morning.

The wild elephant was crossing the road as the omni car with its occupants from Kaduru was coming towards Dharmasthala from Subrahmanya. On seeing the elephant suddenly, the drivers clamped down the brakes and halted the car close to the elephant. The frightened elephant turned and started attacking the car with its trunk.

A major incident was averted as a KSRTC bus plying along the route reached the spot simultaneously and its loud horn scared away the wild elephant.

The severely injured person has been admitted to a hospital.
