Six-year-old murder case cracked; police arrest wife and paramour

Kasaragod: A murder case that took place in the town six and a half years ago has been successfully cracked by the Kasaragod police and as a result the District Crime Intelligence Bureau (DCIB) team has arrested the wife of the deceased, her paramour and a minor son.

Speaking at a press meet, Dr A Srinivas, SP of the district gave details and said, “With regards to the murder of Mohammed Kunhi (32), a resident of Ballur Star city of Mogral Puttur, his wife Sakeena (35), her lover N A Ummer (41), a resident of Muliyar Bovikkana Aliyadka and 16-year-old son of Sakeena have been arrested. The deceased Mohammed Kunhi has property and valuables worth lakhs of rupees. Sakeena and her paramour Ummer have confessed during the interrogation that they killed Mohammed to get his property.”

The arrested accuseds have confessed during the interrogation that they had murdered Mohammed Kunhi by strangulation using a shawl and later disposed his corpse by throwing it into the Chadragiri rivulet.

Mohammed Shafi, a relative of Mohammed Kunhi had given a complaint in the town police station about the missing of Mohammed Kunhi on August 8, 2012 based on which the police had conducted investigation. In the midst of this Habeas Corpus petition was filed in the Kerala high court. The high court had directed to form a special investigation team in order to conduct the investigation on December 12, 2012. The investigation was conducted under the leadership of a senior officer. I April 2014, the case was handed over to DCIB of the district.

The case gathered pace after DySP P K Jayson took charge of the investigation in February 2018. While further investigating the case, the police got the clue that Sakeena and her paramour have had some hand in the disappearance of the Mohammed Kunhi. The police came to know that the accused have sold three properties owned by Mohammed Kunhi after his death. On the basis of this information, the police arrested both Sakeena and Ummer and uncovered the crime.

According to the information given by the police, Arrested Ummer has already served a prison sentence for prostitution and also has three wives.

Further investigation is being carried as per the details given by Dr A Srinivas, SP of the district. The investigation team includes P K Jayson, DySP of DCIB, P V Shivadasan, sub-inspector and personnel like Sheikh Abdul Razak, P V Sasikumar, P V Praseeda and Prashant.
