Smart city: Mangaluru to welcome 2 cycling routes

Mangaluru: Mangaluru city is all set to welcome 2 cycling routes under the Smart City Mission. The project will be funded by the Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) which comes under the Urban Development Department.
The officials have identified 2 cycling routes. One will be built on main roads and the other will pass through smaller lanes.
The project will be taken up as two-phase.
While one phase comprises building an eight-kilometer long cycling route from the Bolaar boat repairing yard to TMA Pai Hall, the other phase is intended to build a four-kilometer cycling route from Marnemikatte.
The eight-kilometer long cycling route will be called, the red lane and the four-kilometer cycling route the yellow lane.
The route from the Bolaar boat repairing yard to TMA Pai Hall Hall will pass through different identified lanes and not through the main road. The route which will be built from Marnamikatta be on the main roads.
The project would mainly include the task of upgrading roads to make it fit for cycle riding. The 2 cycling routes will be student-friendly and no four-wheelers will be allowed on the cycling routes.
