“Smart Flush Retrofit” – A water saving invention by young boys from Udupi

Udupi: Water! An invaluable resource that sustains life on Earth, is fast depleting. This prompted two young boys to invent ways in which this precious resource from being wasted! The boys worked hard to design novel kits called “Smart Flush Retrofit” that won them a Government of India patent for the same.

With this, the Adiga brothers – Pradhyumna and Siddharth – from Handady Brahmavar are now the youngest in Karnataka to own a patent.

The standard Indian single flush tanks, which are commonly used toilets in the subcontinent, typically empty the whole tank in one flush, thereby wasting water unnecessarily. This caught the eye of the young minds.

The “Smart Flush Retrofit” device designed by the Adiga brothers easily converts the single flush systems into a double flush which can empty a part of the tank or the full tank depending on the need.

Director of Bengaluru-based OMS Patent Services, Om Prakash Sringeri,  helped the brothers in filing their patent applications and obtaining patent rights for the invention.

Brothers meanwhile are continuing their studies at the Madhava Kripa School in Manipal. Elder brother Siddharth is a class 6 student, while Pradhyumna is in class 3. They are the children of Manipal University Ayurveda Professor Dr. Sripathi Adiga and Dr. Ramya Adiga couple.
