Mangaluru: Customs officials confiscated smuggled gold worth more than Rs 44 lakhs at the Mangaluru International Airport between September 6 and September 10.
Gold weighing 869 grams of 24-carat purity was confiscated from 5 passengers — including a woman — from Mangluru and Kasaragod. All of them had arrived from Dubai, officials said.
The smugglers used different modus operandi to evade detection — including concealment in form of paste and powder kept in jeans pants, underwear, vest (baniyan), shoes, and in the rectum.
