Smuggled gold worth Rs 54 lakhs seized at Mangaluru Airport

Mangaluru: Customs officials confiscated smuggled gold worth Rs 54.3 lakhs from a passenger at Mangaluru International Airport on April 27.
Customs officials said the passenger, who had arrived from Dammam on Air India Express Flight IX 886 on Saturday, was questioned based on spot profiling and suspicious movement.
The passenger hailing from Dakshin Kannada District of Karnataka was found to have concealed three oval-shaped objects containing gold in paste form weighing 825 gms in his rectum. On extraction, gold of 24-carat purity weighing 750.000 grams (net), valued at Rs. 54,30,000/- was recovered and seized, the officials said in a release on social media platform X.
The passenger was arrested and produced before the Magistrate. Further investigation is underway, Mangaluru Customs added.
