Subrahmanya: What comes to your mind when you hear someone saying “I am going on a long bike ride.” Most probably, a youngster who is going on a long trip with friends, right? However, that’s not the case with Dakshinamurthy Krishna Kumar. The 44-year-old from Mysuru is on a mission to take his aged mother on Thirtha yatras on his old scooter.

Dakshinamurthy Krishna Kumar is currently on a pilgrimage to Dakshina Kannada along with his mother Chuda Ratnamma (72). They arrived in Kukke Subrahmanya on Tuesday, August 16, riding the old Bajaj Chetak scooter.

The mother-son duo began their journey from Mysuru on January 16, 2018. “My mother lived within four walls for more than 60 years. I wanted to fulfill her wishes, so started the journey on the same scooter that my father bought for me 20 years ago,” Krishna Kumar said and added that he feels the presence of his father while riding the scooter.

So far, the unique journey has spanned four countries. Other than India, they have visited temples and shrines in Nepal, Bhutan, and Myanmar. Covid pandemic halted their journey in 2020 and they had to return to Mysuru. Ever since the restriction were lifted, they have been visiting local pilgrimage centres, Kumar said.

During their tour of Dakshina Kannada, they will visit Dharmasthala, Puttur and then go to his mother’s friend’s house in Vitla.
