MLA Harish Poonja made a formal request to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, urging for a fresh investigation into the rape and murder case of Soujanya, a student of Ujire College.
The tragic incident occurred on October 9, 2012, when Soujanya fell victim to rape and was brutally murdered. Despite thorough investigations by multiple departments, the case was eventually handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in 2013.
After a prolonged investigation that lasted until 2023, the suspect in question was acquitted by the court. This outcome has sparked outrage among the people of Duguda Belthangadi Taluk, who feel that the authorities have failed in their duty to bring the perpetrators to justice within the confines of the law.
MLA Poonja has now stepped forward, advocating for a fresh inquiry into the case. He firmly believes that justice must be served for Soujanya and her bereaved family and that a comprehensive reinvestigation is necessary to achieve that goal.
