Mangaluru: A picture of police personnel sitting in front of a liquor bottle in a Police station went viral on social media causing embarrassment to the police department.

The picture shows one of the head constables of Belthangady police station seated in uniform in the police station with whiskey, and a soda bottle.

Responding to the picture, Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Sudheer Kumar Reddy clarified with this regard saying though the liquor bottle was brought to the station by personnel, no one consumed it and that the picture was taken by another constable to defame the other.

The SP has clarified that the constable was innocent. He stated that the photo was taken on October 11 in the station itself and that Nicholas who had his birthday that day had brought the bottle to the station when he was on way to his quarters and had kept the same on the table.

Disciplinary action has been taken against those found guilty after enquiry, the SP said adding Honnappa Gowda and another cop Lawrence who were shown in poor light were innocent and were free to take legal action against those who tried to defame them.
