Chikmagalur: A special police team has been formed to investigate the case of a flag of a different religion being placed on the statue of Sankaracharya at Sringeri.

The 10-member team has been formed under Chikmagalur and Koppa DySP.

Sringeri police have already arrested two persons in connection with the incident.

A team has been formed after many complaints by the Matha’s devotees and former legislators.

The Sringeri Peetha has a lot of history. The Matha has always been non-political. I strongly condemn the incident. The culprits must be severely punished whatever political party they belong to, Sringeri MLA Rajegowda said.
