Stage set for the fight between to former ministers

Udupi: Two political parties have announced their candidate who will contest from the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency.

BJP ticket has been given to incumbent MP Shobha Karandlaje and JD(S)-Congress ticket has been provided to former minister Pramod Madhwaraj.

Shobha Karandlaje had contested from this constituency in 2014 election and won. She is now once again contesting from this constituency. When there was BJP government in the state, she was given the portfolio of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj and has also served as the Energy Minister. She has handled various positions in the party. Presently, she is the BJP state chief secretary.

After being elected as an MLA, Pramod Madhwaraj has handled the portfolio of Fisheries and also as the minister for Youth Empowerment and Sports. He has also various responsibility as part of Mogaveera Mahajana Sangha, Youth Congress and in Congress party. Now he is contesting as the JD(S)-Congress coalition candidate on JD(S) ticket.

JD(S) ticket for Pramod

JD(S) Supremo H D Devegowda gave the B Form ticket to former minister and Congress leader Pramod Madhwaraj on Thursday.

Devegowda and his wife Chennamma, Revanna visited Laxmi temple at JP Nagar in Bengaluru, conducted pooja there and later, Devegowda gave the B Form to Pramod Madhwaraj. Pramaod published that he will be contesting from Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency as a Congress-JD(S) coalition candidate.

“The national leaders of the party have kept faith in me and given me the opportunity. I have the faith that the people of the constituency will provide their blessings. We will pull the BJP chariot with unity. All the 300 MP’s of the party will win and make Narendra Modi the prime minister. Taking the opportunity as a challenge, I’ll develop the constituency,” said Shobha Karandlaje, Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency BJP candidate

“Ticket has been provided to contest as Congress-JD(S) coalition candidate. I believe that the opportunity has been provided by the blessing of the party seniors and by taking into consideration, the developmental works done in the constituency,” said Pramod Madhwaraj, Congress-JD(S) coalition candidate for Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency
