State civic polls: Cong takes lead, BJP 2nd

Bengaluru: After the drubbing in the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party has something to cheer about as it is currently taken a lead in the urban local body (ULB) elections leaving the saffron party behind.

The counting of votes, for the civic elections held on May 29 is currently underway.

According to the State Election Commission, the Congress has so far won over 350 seats, BJP over 280 seats and JDS has 91,

A total of 63 urban local bodies, including eight city municipal councils, 33 town municipal councils and 22 town panchayats went to polls on May 29.

Pointing out that polls were held for 109 ULBs in the first phase in September last year, the commission said that in the second phase, there are totally 103 ULBs term of which ends between March and July, for which the elections are to be held.
