Bengaluru: The state Congress had decided to hold Padyatra against the State government in the flood and rain-affected regions of north Karnataka alleging that the Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa led government has not concentrated on the welfare and betterment of people of the region devastated by the deluge.

The Congress Padayatra will cover Koppal, Gadag, Haveri, Bagalkot, Belgaum and other regions affected due to overflow of Ghataprabha, Malaprabha, Krishna and other rivers.

Karnataka Congress Chief Dinesh Gundu Rao and leader of Opposition in Karnataka Assembly Siddaramaiah held a meeting to chalk out a road map of Padyatra. Congress is concentrating on the flood-affected areas having extensive damage to houses, crops and animals.

The death toll due has gone up to 13 following the devastation caused by incessant rain and floods in Karnataka from October 18 till today.

According to state government data, a total of 150 livestock have been killed and more than 10,000 houses have been damaged.

The heavy downpour in August this year in Karnataka led to floods in 22 districts, leading to the deaths of 84 people in rain-related incidents.

About 5.5 lakh acres of land were inundated, while crops in about 2.3 lakh acres were completely ruined.

About 1.5 lakh houses were destroyed in August’s flood and heavy rains.
