Mangaluru: The treatment cost of Padmashree awardee Sukri Bommagowda will be borne by the state government said Minister of Social Welfare Department and Backward Classes Welfare Department and Uttara Kannada District in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary.

Speaking to reporters after paying a visit to the ailing Folk Singer at the KMC Hospital on Tuesday, the minister said that Sukri Ajji is recovering after treatment.

“I passed on the message from Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai that her treatment cost will be borne by the state government,” he said.

The CM has already notified the Deputy Commissioner about this, he added.

The folk singer and tribal activist Sukri Bommagowda had been referred to KMC Hospital a few days ago after she complained about breathing difficulties. The doctors had later performed a medical procedure for a heart-related issue.
