State pollution body to put 50 e-waste collection bins in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) will be placing 50 e-waste collection bins around Bengaluru in a “first-of-its-kind initiative in India”.
Places like Vidhana Soudha, High Court and malls have been identified in the city for placing e-waste collection bins.
The board has issued licenses to 150 dismantlers, refurbishing and recycling units, of which only 86 are operational.
Rudresh Murthy, environmental officer at KSPCB said that the amount of e-waste generation exceeded the amount of waste recycled which affected the environment.
Last year, India generated 3.2 million tonnes of e-waste of which we have the capacity to process only 1.5 million tonne of e-waste, he added.
The pollution body will also be placing 100 other e-waste bins in other parts of the state.
