Statue of Sangolli Rayanna installed overnight without permission in Belagavi

Belagavi: Statue of Krantiveer Sangolli Rayanna was installed at T-junction road at Peeranwadi village in Belagavi taluk around midnight.

The statue was installed by a section of admirers between Thursday night and Friday morning. The police prevented another section of people from installing the statue of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and confiscated the statue.

People were then seen protesting near the statue of Sangolli Rayanna. They claim that they do not have problems with the Sangolli Rayanna statue but had objections to the location wherein the statue has been installed

On Wednesday, Aug 26, members of various organisations had staged a protest near Deputy Commissioner’s Office demanding re-installation of freedom fighter Sangolli Rayanna’s Statue in Belagavi.

It is said that Water resources and District In charge Minister Ramesh Jarkiholi on Thursday, Aug 27 had informed that decision to install the statue will be taken within legal parameters and as per the guidelines of Supreme Court on August 29.
