Stay order issued on demolition of central market bldg

Mangaluru: Karnataka high court on Tuesday May 5 issued stay order on the proposed redevelopment of central market building by demolishing the decades old market building.
Hearing a petition, filed by Haneef Malar, Ammi Maripalla and Ibrahim B F against the demolition the court directed to issue notice to Mangaluru city corporation.
As part of the smart city project in Mangaluru, the city corporation had earmarked a sum of Rs 145 crore for construction of a new building with state-of-the-art facilities by demolishing the existing market building.
Presently, the vendors at the market have been relocated to Baikampady’s Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) facility amid the coronavirus lockdown.
