Stranded Mangalurean youth: Indian embassy in Kuwait taking steps for their return

Kuwait/Mangaluru: The Indian Embassy officials in Kuwait were met by the Indian community leaders here on Tuesday May 28th, urging the embassy’s immediate intervention in connection to the 35 youths from Mangaluru who are stranded in the country after having being allegedly cheated by a placement agency.

Reportedly, Manikya Associates run by Prasad Shetty had promised jobs in Kuwait to 35 youths upon payment of Rs 65,000 individually. But on reaching Kuwait, the youth realised the company for which they had been recruited was entirely different.

Since the last 6 months, the youth have been deprived of their salaries and proper food. In their desperation, the shot a video informing the crisis they are in and requested any assistance from the public and politicians back home.

Promptly responding to the request made by the youth, MLA Vedavyas Kamath along with the office-bearers and members of Indian Engineers Association, Kuwait reviewed the procedure of sending back the 35 youth home.

Mohandas Kamath who is a well known Indian community leader in Kuwait informed that they had met with the Sibi U S, the second secretary of Indian Embassy and inquired about the 35 youths who were cheated by a recruiting agency and added that the official confirmed that the embassy has received a mail from minister of external affairs Sushma Swaraj.

Mr Kamath also said that the Indian ambassador K Jeevan Sagar and Sibi met the general manager of Public Authority of Manpower (PAM) and consequently, the PAM immediately blocked the file of the employment company and summoned the management of the carriage company.
