Mangaluru: Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra KV has informed that the State government has sanctioned the use of a naval helicopter to rescue the labourers stranded aboard a tug boat in the Arabian Sea.
Due to the heavy rains caused by Cyclone Takutae, the Coast Guard has delayed the rescue operation.
In the meantime, the government decided to use a naval helicopter to rescue the labourers.
“The helicopter is yet to arrive at Mangaluru from the naval base at Karwar. It will come only after heavy winds slow down,” said Rajendra.
Nine labourers have been stranded on a tug boat named ‘Coromandal.’ It is located about 15 nautical miles off the coast of Kaup, and has been stuck to a sea rock.
The Coast Guard is in constant contact with the nine labourers.
