Mangaluru: In a bid to combat the rising cybercrimes a robust law will soon be introduced, said Karnataka Home Minister, Dr. G Parameshwara on Sunday.

He was speaking to reporters following the inauguration of the new buildings of Bajpe and Mangaluru Rural Police Stations in Mangaluru Police Commissionerate and City Armed Police Force’s CAR office.

The government is actively addressing the mounting incidents of cyber-related offenses, including unauthorized fund transfers, hacking-related fraud, dissemination of false information, and personal defamation. Legislative amendments will be undertaken to fortify the legal framework against such transgressions, he said.

Dr. Parameshwara said that a committee comprising representatives from the Information Technology and Home Departments will be formed to oversee this initiative.

Command center in Bengaluru

A pioneering Command Center is set to be established in Bengaluru within the next 3-4 months. This facility will monitor the operations of every police station in the state, utilizing state-of-the-art surveillance cameras for real-time information gathering, he said.

Emphasizing the government’s commitment to modernizing the police force, Dr. Parameshwara highlighted the integration of advanced technology, infrastructural enhancements, and comprehensive training in areas such as computer literacy, cybercrime management, and weaponry proficiency.

Police stations will be refurbished in the ongoing “Nooru Police Stations” scheme, he added.

Addressing concerns surrounding the recruitment of Police Sub-Inspectors (PSIs), Dr. Parameshwara assured that appointments will promptly follow the court’s directive.

Dedicated wing for curbing moral policing incidents

In a bid to curb instances of moral policing, a dedicated police wing has been established in Mangaluru, Dr. Parameshwara said and warned of stringent action against any persons promoting or engaging in such activities.

Kaveri web portal was hacked

Responding to queries about cyber fraud involving the compromise of biometric and Aadhaar data in sub-registrar offices, the Home Minister emphasized the need for heightened vigilance in financial transactions. He also revealed that the Kaveri web portal, integral to several administrative processes, had been hacked.

Security heightened following Kerala blasts

In light of the bomb blast in Kerala, the government has escalated security measures across all districts, especially along the coast, Dr. Parameshwara said and assured that vigilant supervision is in place, with strict instructions to the intelligence department for continuous monitoring.
