Mangaluru: An engineering student committed suicide by jumping off a multi-storyed building at Hampankatta around 8:50 am in the morning on Wednesday July 25th.
The deceased has been identified as Guruprasad (20), only son of Manoj-Sashikala couple’s two children, a resident of Jeppinamogaru. Guruprasad’s sister would help Manoj in his job as the Life Insurance Development Officer. The deceased is a student of a private engineering college at Valachil and was reportedly suffering from depression from some time.
As per the usual routine, Manoj had dropped Guruprasad in his car at Jeppinamogaru bus stop from where he would catch college bus. But, Guruprasad instead boarding his college bus, he boarded another bus and went to Hampankatta and went up to the 4th floor of Kunil complex building opposite Wenlock Hospital and jumped down to his death.
Guruprasad had jumped from the height of 60 feet and the jump resulted in fracturing a hand, both of his legs and part of his back. Since it was morning, not many people were there near the spot. However, after some time a few passerby observed the lying victim and informed the same to a traffic cop nearby. The cop informed Bunder police while also immediately rushing the victim to Wenlock hospital. Guruprasad failed to respond to the given treatment and succumb to his injuries.
