In a rather shocking instance, students of a government school at Elige village in Shivamogga’s Sagar taluk are forced to use makeshift toilets, made out of sari in an open field.
Images of these makeshift sari toilets have gone viral on social media.
As per a TOI report, children from deprived communities study at this school and out of the 13 students, 7 happen to be girls. The school toilet is in a state of disrepair for many years now. Villagers claim that though they brought this issue to the notice of the district administration there has been no results.
It is further alleged that the school building itself is in a dilapidated condition and bereft of basic amenities.
After the photos went viral, the Deputy Director of Public Instructions in Shivamogga, Parameshwarappa has assured of looking into the issue.
