Subrahmanya: A 19-year-old vendor filed a complaint against a police constable, attached to Subrahmanya station, accusing him of extorting Rs 5,000 from him and later assaulting him at the police station.
The accused identified as Bhimanna Gowda has been transferred to the Kadaba police station and a probe is on.
The victim, Bhimagundi Shashikiran, a resident of Kutrapadi village in Kadaba taluk in his complaint mentioned that he had put up a stall during the Champa Shasthi festival held at Subrahmanya here. On November 28, Gowda had come to the stall at around 11.30 pm and demanded Rs 5,000 from Shashikiran. Gowda allegedly also threatened to confiscate the items and told him to collect the same from the station.
It is further alleged that Shashikiran was taken to police quarters, where the constable snatched his money, and mobile and kicked him in the waist. He was let off with a warning. An injured Shashikiran went to the hospital for treatment. He was however hesitant to file a complaint against the constable fearing repercussions.
Finally, on the insistence of his friends, he mustered the courage to file the complaint.
