Subrahmanya: A man was rescued from being swept away in the Kumaradhara River near the bathing ghat at Kukke Subrahmanya on Friday morning.
The elderly man, who had come to Kukke Subrahmanya from Bengaluru, entered the river at the bathing ghat. Soon, the strong current began to carry him away. Locals noticed this and alerted temple staff member Lokanath.
Acting quickly, Lokanath, with the help of shopkeeper Gopal and another individual, pulled the man out of the water and provided first aid, saving his life.
Since the elderly man did not provide clear information about his family, the Subrahmanya police were informed. During the rescue, the man reportedly expressed a desire to die, stating, “Why did you save me? I wanted to die.” It was later learned that he had left his home due to personal distress.
