Subramanya: Thousands of fish found dead in Darpana Theertha river

Subramanya: Thousands of fishes, including the ‘Devara Meenu’ were found floating dead in the Darpana Theertha river of Valagadakeri near Subramanya in the taluk suspectedly due to water pollution. A few of the dead fish had been washed ashore.

It is alleged that drainage and sewage water from nearby residential areas is flowing into the river water thus polluting it. Locals expressed concern over the death of the fish and blamed the administration of negligence.

The surrounding area is reeking of a foul smell due to the dead fish and people fear the spread of contagious diseases. Locals said that no officials have visited the spot so far.
