Sullia: 2 youths from Puttur drown in Payasvini river

Sullia: In a tragic incident, two youths who had been for a swim in the Payasvini river met a watery grave near Dodderi in Sulya taluk on Saturday.

The deceased have been identified as Jitesh (19) son of Derla Narayan Patali of Ariadka in Kowdichar of Puttur taluk and Praveen (19) son of Krishna Naik of Ambatemoole of Paduvanur village.

The tragedy struck when a group of 6 youths from Puttur Kowdichar went to the Payasvini river in Sullia on Saturday for a swim. As one of the youths started drowning at a precipice, the other ventured to save him and got pulled down, sources said.

Local swimmers carried out a search operation and lifted the bodies of the drowned youths.

It is said that the youths had taken leave from work and gone on a vacation due to a program attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Puttur on Saturday. Sullia police visited the spot and registered a case.
