Sullia: 3 labourers killed in landslip at construction site

In a tragic incident, 3 labourers lost their lives when a landslip occurred during a construction project in Sullia on Saturday afternoon, March 25.
The victims have been identified as Hiregoddetti Somashekhar Reddy (45), his wife Shantakka (35) both natives of Mudaragi in Gadag and another unidentified youth.
The tragic incident occurred at Gurumpu on Aletti Road within the Sullia Nagar Panchayat limits.
According to reports, a private individual was constructing a retaining wall and had hired labourers to carry out the work. During the work, the soil suddenly gave way, and a sizable portion of the hillock caved in.
At the time of the incident, there were seven individuals present at the site, four of whom were able to escape. Tragically, the three labourers were trapped under the mud and had to be rescued using a JCB. Despite the rescue operation lasting for over an hour and a half, three of the individuals were already deceased when they were pulled out.
Following the tragic incident, officials including Minister S Angara, Tahsildar Manjunath, Taluk panchayat officials, Sullia Police, and Fire Brigade personnel visited the site to assess the situation.
