Mangaluru: Villagers of Jayanagara Kondekeri Dalit Colony were forced to carry the dead body of a person, residing in the same locality, on their shoulders owing to lack of road connectivity.
The deceased, identified as Dinesh, had fallen ill on February 25. He was admitted to the Government Hospital at Sullia where he died on February 26.
As there is no proper road to the village, Dinesh’s family members and others were forced to carry his dead body on their shoulders for more than half a kilometre to his house for the last rituals.
Colony residents have been demanding a road for long. They had protested and even threatened to boycott elections but to no avail.
Officers from the town council have now promised to pave a road immediately.
