Sunny Hindustani wins singing reality show Indian Idol 11

Mumbai: Bhatinda’s Sunny Hindustani won the title of one of India’s popular singing reality show “Indian Idol” on Sunday, February 24.

He took home the prestigious trophy along with prize money of Rs. Lakhs, a car and a singing contract with T-series.

He had to drop out of school after Class 6 due to the family’s financial condition and started working as a shoe shinner outside the inter-state bus terminus in Bathinda. He continued practicing music at home.

He attended the Chandigarh Audition of Indian Idol and the impressed judges gave him ‘Golden Mic’ and selected him directly for the ‘Theatre Round.’

His audition video of him singing ‘Afreen Afreen’ went viral after Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra posted it on Twitter.

He mostly sang Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s songs on the show.

The first and second runner up of the show Rohit Raut and Ankona Mukharjee won Rs. 5 Lakhs each, while the fourth and fifth on the show, Ridham Kalyan and Adriz Ghosh took 3 Lakhs home.

Apart from this, each finalist received 1 lakh cheque from Lotus Herbals and gift hampers from sponsors.
