New Delhi: The Supreme Court quashed the criminal proceedings against former Karnataka Energy Minister KJ George and two senior IPS officers in the case of the suicide of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) MK Ganapathy.
The apex court bench, led by Justice Bela M Trivedi and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, upheld the Karnataka High Court’s 2020 decision, finding no evidence of wrongdoing by George and the officers, AM Prasad and Pronab Mohanty. The court ruled that the case against them was unwarranted.
The Karnataka High Court had earlier dismissed the charges, stating that the evidence showed DSP Ganapathy was distressed due to a lack of desired postings rather than any harassment by the accused. The High Court’s judgment had criticized the special court’s findings, terming them “perverse.”
Ganapathy’s family had appealed the High Court’s decision, but the Supreme Court’s ruling has now cleared George and the officers of any culpability in the case.
