Surathkal: A laborer, working for a contractor of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL), died in a mishap during a crane repair on June 22.
The worker has been identified as Keshava Kotian (49), a resident of Kana near Surathkal.
According to sources, he was injured in a workplace accident and died on the way to the hospital.
A case has been registered against the contracting company at the Surathkal police station.
As the worker died in a workplace-related incident, his kin should be provided compensatory employment and monetary compensation of Rs 1 crore, the trade unions have urged.
