Surathkal: Police confiscate 250 loads of illegally hoarded sand

Surathkal Police have seized over 250 loads of sand illegally stockpiled in Munchuru and Chelyaru here.
The sand, which is estimated to be worth around Rs 35 Lakhs, was reportedly hoarded by the landowners to sell at higher prices during the rainy season when the demand for sand increases.
According to the Surathkal Police, around 100 loads of sand were illegally stockpiled in Munchuru, while 150 loads of sand were hoarded in Chelyaru village.
Following the raids, separate cases have been registered against the landowners under the Mines and Minerals Development and Regulation (MMDR) Act, and the investigation is currently underway.
The press release further stated that the matter has been handed over to the officials of the Mines and Geology Department, for further action.
