Mangaluru: The government has decided to stop the toll collection near NITK on NH 66.
The companies who constructed the four lanes between Bantwal and Surathkal and Hejamady had set up toll plazas to collect toll. As two different companies have completed the project, two tolls were set up at a very short distance; the toll is being collected at Brahmarakootlu, Suratkal and Hejamady.
There were several protests against these tolls from various organizations and civil rights associations.
The toll collection contract will expire in the month of July 2018. Karnataka state government has sent an official letter to the NHAI asking not to collect toll after July 2018.
