Suratkal: Four cars, one bike damaged as lorry rolls backwards

Team Udayavani, Nov 7, 2023, 8:49 PM IST

A fully loaded cement lorry, parked near the petrol station road, unexpectedly rolled backward, resulting in damage to four parked cars and a motorcycle on Tuesday in Suratkal.

The incident unfolded around 5:30 PM when the lorry’s driver parked and exited the vehicle. Without warning, the loaded lorry began to roll backward, making an abrupt turn near the median and collided with four cars belonging to customers who had stopped at a nearby market. The lorry continued further until it came to a halt against the market’s wall.

Had the lorry continued on a straight path, it could have posed a risk to a nearby bus and its passengers at the adjacent bus stand. There were also numerous people near the market who observed the lorry’s unexpected rollback and promptly moved to the side to evade the potential danger.

A case has been registered.
