Surathkal: Police arrest theft accused within 24 hours

Surathkal: Police arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with a theft at a rented house near the railway tracks near Munchuru within 24 hours of the crime.

The accused is identified as Jambaiah, a resident of Hosakote. Police traced his whereabouts to Nandikoor in Padubiri and arrested him.

The theft took place at the residence of Kalleshwara Shekhappa Nelavadi when he and his wife had gone to work. His mother-in-law who stays with them had also stepped out of the house for some errand when the thief entered the house after breaking open the lock.

Gold and silver jewelry worth Rs 2.50 lakh and Rs 50,000 cash kept in the cupboard were stolen.

Police recovered the stolen items and confiscated the accused’s car and mobile during the arrest.
