Bengaluru: A bag containing Rs 4.5 lakh in cash belonging to a contractor was carried away by a swindler by distracting him in Vijayanagar on Friday.
The victim has been identified as Jagadish V, a resident of Attiguppe in Banashankari, had withdrawn cash from a private bank and kept it in his car. Around 2.45 pm, he was eating in his car while his driver was in the front seat.
An outsider moved toward them and informed that one of the car’s back wheels was flat. Both Jagadish and his driver came out of the car and checked for the tire. While they got occupied in getting the apparatuses from the boot, the outsider cleverly carried off the money bag.
Jagadish and his driver realised what had happened and called the police control room before approaching the Vijayanagar police.
As indicated by the police, Jagadish was carrying Rs 2 lakh that he had taken from home. Afterward, he withdrew another Rs 2.5 lakh to pay salaries to his workers.
The police suspect the swindler may have followed Jagadish from the bank and punctured the tire before diverting and robbing him.
A case has been registered at the Vijayanagara police station. The police are now in search for the conman.
